‘THE GISBORNE FLASH’ JOINS DAVIS CUP

Kelly Evernden (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Maru) has accepted to be part of the Davis Cup World Group qualifier against Korea, Republic this weekend at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at Rhode Island USA. The tie was to be hosted in NZ but Covid-19 put a stop to that, and the International Hall of Fame offered to take up co-hosting.

Kelly is a former ITF 31 world singles player, A decade of representing NZ at Davis Cup, a six times NZ singles champion and as a touring professional boasts wins over Michael Chang, Yannick Noah and John McEnroe. The only touring Pro with one lung (lost after a car accident)

Kelly will be a comments person on Sky TV and will be an added mentor to Captain Christophe Lambert and the team – Kelly is the tennis head pro at Mercer Island in Seattle
