He whakamihi mo Ruia Morrison MBE, ASB Classic

ASB Classic winner Serena Williams was presented with a korowai by living tennis legend Ruia Morrison MBE. The korowai weaved by Ngāti Whātua o Ōrākei and named after Ruia and to be presented to the winner annually – this is not only to commemorate Serena’s win but to acknowledge Ruia’s win 60 years ago at this tournament defeating Margaret Court in the final, Margaret had just won the Australian Open.

Ruia was assisted in the presentation by AMTA Patron Kiingi Tuheitia Potatau Te Wherowhero VII.
